Autograph letter signed : Edinburgh, to Rev. John Brown, 1824 Feb. 9.

Returning Mr. Douglas's book, identifying it as a copy of Calderwood's History of the Kirk of Scotland, and discussing it. Noting that the corrections and cancellations are in the autograph of Calderwood. Stating that the text "agrees exactly with the [abridged] printed edition" and noting that this indicates "(what was formerly doubtful) that the abridged form in which the work appeared was given to it by the author, & not, as we might have been apt to suspect from the late period of its publication, by any other individual using that liberty."
